Smiley Saturday

smiley-saturday-2.jpg

Smiley Saturday is brought is you by Lightening Online

If you want to do a Smiley Saturday, here’s how: Smiley Saturday

So here’s just a few smiley moments for me this week. Hope you get a smile out of them too.

As I type, I am smiling away to myself. In our house, Mr Shamrock is the ‘fun’ parent, and I am the ’strict’ parent. It is a source of frustration for me. I have really made an effort to communicate the importance of us being consistant together. I sometimes feel like I am fighting a losing battle.

Mr Shamrock is making an effort and has been for a couple of weeks. Just little things. One of them being follow through. As I type he is getting the kids to help tidy their area upstairs. (Bedroom area, play area, spare bedroom area) When the kids get bored they walk off, and he is CALLING THEM BACK !!!!! Woo hoo, Go Mr Shamrock. He is EXPLAINING to them and SETTING BOUNDARIES. i.e. They are not going to their sleepover until their area is tidy. I am chuckling away here listening to the poppet. Welcome to parenthood Mr Shamrock.

I had a visit from my cousin J. He was passing through. I adore him. He is a larikin, but not as asshat. He is really naughty, but funny with it. We were talking about things….. I mentioned how we want to get our firearms license. J nodded and said “Yeah, I wouldn’t mind getting my firearms license. But I don’t think they would give it to me.” “Why?” says I. “My record.” says he. (An incident about 10 years ago) ‘Oh what did you end up getting charged with?’ says I. ‘Misuse of a deadly weapon.’ Um, yeah, Don’t think they will give you a firearms license, lol.

Cutsie photo time !!!!! Let me hear you say AWWWWWWW!!!!!

Our new babies:

Molly is a White Chinese Silky Bantam, we have a breeding pair, but I somehow don’t see Shrek as the father here do you?? lol.

We had 11 eggs, 10 hatched, 11th wasn’t fertile. They are 2 days old here.

More Smiley moments for me has been reading the lovely comments as I write Finbar’s story. I have been quite overwhelmed with the outpouring of love from people, most of whom I have never met !!!

Speaking of Finbar’s story, after writing about his death, I closed the laptop and had a wee cry. Celtic Lad and Celtic Shamrock asked me what was wrong. I explained I had been sharing Finbar’s story and I was a little sad. CS hugged me, CL took my hand and said ‘Don’t worry Mum, If you want to know what Finbar looks like, look at me. We were identical twins.’ How could I not love him !!!

A big shout out to Lightening and the people who have commented on this blog. I am a cleaning Nazi. Let me rephrase that, I was a cleaning Nazi. Now I have relaxed some. But it brought such a smile to me face, as I realised:

  • I am one of the suckers who thinks smells of cleaner means clean.
  • I am not a tight wad for cutting up my old towels to use as cloths.
  • I learnt of eco friendly ways to clean. VERY happy as we are on tank water and have our own septic tank to watch.
  • I AM NOT ALONE !!!!! There are others who are concerned about the smells in their toilet !!!! WOO HOO !!!!! (Hubbie has always told me I am deranged, but if *I* am, I am in good company with some of the bloggers)
So, another week has come to and end with lots to smile about !!!
Please leave a comment so I can read yours.

  1. The little chicks are adorable Nikki.
I love what the CL said – what a gorgeous boy you have there and MR Shamrock too.

Yes it is liberating to know we frugal cleaners are in good company.
Mine will be up later …
    My Little Drummer boys

  2. I want chooks!!!

    Your boys are so lovely.

wooohooo go Mr S!!! You’ll have to reward him for his terrific hands on parenting………….. better go put some cream on his fruit salad. ;)

  3. Love those bubby chicks!
What a lovely thing for CL to say.
    Good on Mr Shamrock! :)

  4. Mr Shamrock is being so good. Maybe a reward is in order? ;)

    Oooo bubby chickens. Cutesy cute.

Celtic Lad, he so makes me smile. Pity he isn’t 15 years older. ;) He’d be worth snagging.

  5. Thank you for sharing Finbars story with us. I look forward to meeting him in heaven one day.

Love your smiley saturday moments. My hubby is the ‘fun’ parent also, can be a struggle somedays to get him to focus on the hard parts of parenting.

  6. my hubby is the fun parent too, but when he decides to not be the kids know to duck and cover! (or admit to eating my chocolate lol)

  7. hmmmm – ok, not duck and cover – he doesn’t explode or anything, but they know he’s serious and to do what they are told, cos if Mum calls Dad in, she’s really had enough and Dad works on the prinicple that EVERYONE makes mum happy or else! lmao

  8. Hi there I found your blog through Scrappy Doo. Anyway I too like cleaning okay so I am not overjoyed about doing it but I like a clean house. Anyway I have thrown out the nasty chemical based cleaners because I was a very good consumer and was convinced by ads that I must have the latest and greatest cleaning products. So now what am I using?? White vinegar and baking soda and wow loving using them. I was so happy about this I had to share with everyone on my blog here http://angelgurl.wordpress.com/2008/02/11/white-vinegar-and-baking-soda-are-my-new-best-friends/

  9. Or apparently you can spend gobs and gobs of money on *special* cloths where you just add water. Fancy!

By the way, have you done a head count on those chicks recently? I reckon your Shrek was lining one or five of them up for his tea…. I see the glint in his eye!

  10. Oh and stict vs fun -hell: you ARE describing my household again!

  11. We live in a parallel universe !!!!

Once my cleaning things are finished, baking soda and vinegar it is.

  12. By the way, Miss Ed Ma Kate Shun has some tips and tricks for (homeschooled) kids over my way of late ;)

  13. Awwww… gorgeous chicks! 10 out of 11 is a pretty good haul! Good momma!

*huggggggggs* re Finbar… *sigh* don’t know what else to say right now.

  14. You sure can hear me say “aaawwwww”!
I’ve never seen black ones :)
    Too cute!

  15. And I forgot, CL comment makes me sniffle a bit….what lovely kids!!

  16. Weren’t the chicks cute?! I couldn’t wait to hold them!!!:) Shame the 11th egg was not fertile.

  17. still, 10 out of 11 is good going!
